  • Author: Emma

Description

These Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts are the perfect blend of crispy waffles, tender donuts, and sweet caramelized apples. Topped with a light glaze or cinnamon sugar, they’re ideal for brunch, dessert, or a cozy fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¾ cup milk (or buttermilk for richer flavor)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling
In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for 3–4 minutes until apples soften and caramelize slightly. Set aside to cool.

  2. Make the batter
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then gently fold in the caramelized apples.

  3. Cook in waffle maker
Preheat and lightly grease your waffle iron. Spoon batter into the center, close lid, and cook 3–5 minutes until golden and crisp. Place cooked donuts on a wire rack.

  4. Glaze and finish
Mix powdered sugar with milk to create a smooth glaze. Drizzle over warm waffle donuts or dust with powdered sugar/cinnamon sugar for a rustic finish. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for a tart bite or Honeycrisp for natural sweetness.
  • Don’t overload the waffle iron; smaller portions cook more evenly.
  • For a fall twist, add ¼ cup pumpkin puree and a dash of pumpkin spice to the batter.
