Description

A festive and easy appetizer with puff pastry, basil pesto, and cheese, shaped like a Christmas tree.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry
  • 1/2 cup basil pesto
  • 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, whisked (for the egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon hot honey sauce
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Heat your oven to 360F/180C and line an oven tray with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out a sheet of puff pastry on a clean, flat surface.
  3. Spread the basil pesto all over the pastry, getting as close to the edges as you can.
  4. Scatter the mozzarella and parmesan evenly over the pesto.
  5. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top and press down to seal.
  6. Cut 1-inch strips down the long side of the pastry rectangle, leaving a 2-inch strip at one end.
  7. Fold each strip over itself four times to form a triangle shape.
  8. Press a skewer through each pastry tree and place on the tray.
  9. Cut out star toppers with a mini cutter and skewer them onto the trees.
  10. Brush the trees with egg wash and bake for 15 minutes until golden.
  11. Drizzle with hot honey and sprinkle with red pepper flakes before serving.
