Description

Make these quick, crispy BBQ flavored homemade potato chips. They are a healthier alternative to store-bought chips, perfect for snacks or appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium sized potatoes sliced paper-thin
  • 1 quart oil for deep frying
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground mustard
  • dash cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Place potato slices into a large bowl of cold water as you slice them. Drain the water, rinse the slices, and pat them completely dry.
  2. Combine all the ingredients for the spice mixture in a small bowl and mix until well combined.
  3. Heat oil in a deep-fryer to 365 degrees F.
  4. Fry potato slices in small batches.
  5. When the slices start turning golden, remove them and drain them on paper towels.
  6. Dust the drained chips with the spice mixture immediately.
  7. Continue this process until you fry all the slices.
  8. Season with additional salt if you want more saltiness.

Notes

  • These chips originated from a need for a crispy, flavorful snack for a family hike, aiming for a less sweet and less fatty alternative to commercial BBQ chips.
  • The spice blend recreates the flavor of summer barbecues using simple, homemade ingredients.
  • This recipe proves that a healthy snack can still be very satisfying.
