Description

Make this simple, comforting, sweet-and-salty popcorn treat perfect for movie nights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 Tablespoon oil of choice (refined coconut oil preferred)
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 3/41 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon oil of choice
  • Sea Salt Flakes, as desired

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet or countertop with parchment or waxed paper for drying the popcorn.
  2. In an 8-quart stockpot, add the oil and three popcorn kernels. Heat over high heat and cover the pot. Wait for the test kernels to pop, signaling the oil is hot enough.
  3. Once the test kernels pop, immediately add the remaining 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels to the pan. Cover and remove from heat. Gently swirl the pan for 20 seconds.
  4. Return the pan to the heat. The kernels will begin popping almost immediately.
  5. When the popcorn is about halfway done popping (around 30 seconds to 1 minute after popping starts), slightly crack the lid to let excess steam escape.
  6. Gently shake the pan side to side if needed to move unpopped kernels to the bottom.
  7. When popping slows or stops, pour the popcorn onto the prepared parchment paper.
  8. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon of oil. Heat in 15-20 second increments, stirring between each time, until almost melted. Continue stirring until the residual heat melts the remaining lumps.
  9. Drizzle the melted chocolate evenly across the popcorn.
  10. Sprinkle flaky salt across the popcorn as desired.
  11. Let the chocolate harden for approximately 30 minutes.
  12. Store the finished popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool area for up to 3-5 days.

Notes

  • Refined coconut oil is recommended for popping, but use your preferred oil.
  • The extra teaspoon of oil added to the chocolate helps create a smoother drizzle.
