Description
Make this simple, comforting, sweet-and-salty popcorn treat perfect for movie nights or family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 Tablespoon oil of choice (refined coconut oil preferred)
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 3/4 – 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1 teaspoon oil of choice
- Sea Salt Flakes, as desired
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet or countertop with parchment or waxed paper for drying the popcorn.
- In an 8-quart stockpot, add the oil and three popcorn kernels. Heat over high heat and cover the pot. Wait for the test kernels to pop, signaling the oil is hot enough.
- Once the test kernels pop, immediately add the remaining 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels to the pan. Cover and remove from heat. Gently swirl the pan for 20 seconds.
- Return the pan to the heat. The kernels will begin popping almost immediately.
- When the popcorn is about halfway done popping (around 30 seconds to 1 minute after popping starts), slightly crack the lid to let excess steam escape.
- Gently shake the pan side to side if needed to move unpopped kernels to the bottom.
- When popping slows or stops, pour the popcorn onto the prepared parchment paper.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon of oil. Heat in 15-20 second increments, stirring between each time, until almost melted. Continue stirring until the residual heat melts the remaining lumps.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate evenly across the popcorn.
- Sprinkle flaky salt across the popcorn as desired.
- Let the chocolate harden for approximately 30 minutes.
- Store the finished popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature in a cool area for up to 3-5 days.
Notes
- Refined coconut oil is recommended for popping, but use your preferred oil.
- The extra teaspoon of oil added to the chocolate helps create a smoother drizzle.
