  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Royal icing, glaze icing, or buttercream for decorating
  • Assorted sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Mix well.
  3. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix until dough forms.
  4. Divide dough in half. Roll each portion to 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Stack dough layers with parchment, refrigerate for 2 hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line baking sheets.
  7. Cut dough into shapes. Bake for 11–12 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
  8. Cool completely before decorating with icing and sprinkles.
