- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon professional red food coloring
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each. Stir in vanilla and red food coloring.
- Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add to wet ingredients and mix.
- Roll dough into balls, coat first in granulated sugar, then powdered sugar.
- Place on baking sheet 1 inch apart. Bake for 10 minutes until cracked but soft inside.
- Cool before serving.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for vibrant red color.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
