Make this simple, budget-friendly version of the classic Philly Cheesesteak using ground beef for a hearty, cheesy sandwich that comes together fast.

- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
- 6 ounces mushrooms, chopped or sliced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp onion soup mix
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4 Hawaiian hoagie rolls
- 4 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet to medium high heat and add 1 pound ground beef in one whole piece. Brown the ground beef whole on both sides until golden, about 2-3 minutes per side. Once browned, crumble into small pieces and continue to cook until the meat is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Transfer cooked meat to a plate and set aside.
- To the same skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter, then add 1 small onion sliced, 1 medium green pepper sliced, and 6 ounces mushrooms chopped. Sauté until mushrooms are golden brown, about 6-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef back to the skillet with the veggies along with 1 tsp Worcestershire, 2 tbsp onion soup mix, and 1/2 tsp each garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and cook another 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat.
- Turn your broiler to high and place the top rack a few inches from the heat source. Divide the meat mixture between the 4 hoagie rolls and top each roll with 1 slice of provolone cheese.
- Place the rolls on a broiler safe pan and broil for 30-seconds to 1-minute, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Enjoy right away.
Notes
- Using ground beef makes this recipe faster and more practical than using sliced steak.
