Description

Make these easy, flaky puff pastry hearts filled with cream cheese and jam for a festive Valentine’s Day treat or simple snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 puff pastry sheet, defrosted
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup raspberry or strawberry jam
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese with the sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out heart shapes.
  4. Place the cut-out hearts onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each heart.
  5. Spread a layer of the cream cheese mixture onto each heart-shaped pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
  6. Spoon a dollop of raspberry or strawberry jam on top of the cream cheese filling on each pastry heart. Optionally swirl the jam with a toothpick or the back of a spoon to create a marble effect.
  7. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for about 5-10 minutes.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

  • If you do not have a heart cookie cutter, you can stencil a heart shape out of cardboard and use that to cut the pastry.
  • These are great as appetizers or a light dessert.
