Description

Make bakery-style strawberry cream cheese danishes at home using frozen puff pastry for a light, sweet brunch treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed per package directions
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries sliced
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp water
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a medium bowl until creamy.
  3. Combine sliced strawberries, cornstarch, and the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of sugar in a separate bowl.
  4. Place the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Roll it out slightly. Cut the puff pastry in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 4 equal pieces to make 8 slices total. Score a border into each piece with a knife, cutting only partway through the dough.
  5. Spoon the cream cheese mixture within the scored border of each pastry piece, then top the cream cheese with strawberries.
  6. Combine the egg and water to create an egg wash, then brush this wash over the border of the puff pastry.
  7. Transfer the pastries to a baking sheet lined with a silicon baking mat or parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the danishes are puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  9. Stir together the powdered sugar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of milk to create a glaze.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled danishes and serve.
