Description
A comforting cake combining soft, spiced apples with a crisp, buttery crumble topping, made simple using the Thermomix.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 apples, Granny Smiths
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (for filling)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 160 g self raising flour
- 115 g cold unsalted butter
- 80 g brown sugar (for topping)
- 1 tablespoon rolled oats (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 190°C / 170°C fan forced.
- Peel and core the apples, then cut them into roughly 2-3 cm thick pieces.
- Place the apple pieces into a shallow dish (about 23cm x 17cm). Toss them with the cinnamon and filling sugar until fully coated.
- Weigh the flour, cold butter, and topping sugar into the Thermomix bowl. Mix for 15-25 seconds at speed 5 until the mixture resembles sand. Do not over mix.
- Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the prepared apples. Gently press the topping down with the back of a fork.
- Sprinkle the oats over the top if you are using them.
- Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
- Serve the cake hot with custard, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Use Granny Smith apples for the best texture in the filling.
- If the crumble mixture becomes too wet, stop mixing immediately; it should resemble coarse sand.
- This cake is excellent served warm during autumn or for teatime.
